Battery Bonus - Take stock of your stock

Updated: Sep 3, 2020

Technobility received a request by our customer to check and condition assess their Railgel batteries that have recently been removed from their train cars due to suspected poor performance and were subsequently replaced with new batteries.

Prior to the batteries being removed from service. Basic tests are undertaken by the train technicians and it is at this point that a determination is made to remove and replace these with new batteries.

Technobility receive a large quantity of these “deemed as under-performing batteries”

(50 +batteries) into our facility at Silverwater, we then inspect and serialise each battery before testing the performance characteristics of each battery to

specifications and requirements.

We have designed and constructed charging and discharging portable testing units to accurately and confidently test a wide range of heavy industrial rail batteries including Exide batteries. This unit has data logging / recording features and can manage 8 batteries to be parallel tested.

Typically 90% of the batteries retested fail to reach 80% of their original capacity however, the batteries found to exceed 80% of their original capacity are considered as 'test pass' and will be returned with a test certificate and the test data made available to the customer. The batteries that have failed testing are quarantined and packaged ready for recycling in accordance with Technobility systems and processes

The images below show some aspects of the battery management process.
