The future of robotics in rail



We are living through a time of significant advancement of AI artificial intelligence and robotics, these technologies are assisting many industries and businesses throughout the world who are adopting the tech to enhance their businesses and products.


Technobility has been using robotics technology in some of our products and systems for a number of years. We adopted the technology for maintenance and testing of products used in safety critical systems in the rail industry.


We have performed maintenance and repair of OEP operator enabled pedals, previously known as the 'dead man pedal'. The OEP is a primary safety critical device that interfaces with the train driver, the vigilance system, the event recorder and the braking system. If the driver becomes incapacitated, the OEP causes the brakes to be applied on the rolling stock and the train will come to a halt. Our OEP robotic test rig controls and records angles and forces to verify maintenance requirements in accordance with the TMP technical maintenance plan.


Technobility performed type testing of a drivers brake handle used on passenger rolling stock. The brake handle had required engineering changes to internal components due to critical in-service failures. Our robotic test rig performed millions of cycles, measured and recorded handle position and applied forces which determined the final configuration and design of the brake handle.


We manufacture and recommend robotic technology for conducting maintenance and testing of safety critical systems as it eliminates human error, produces consistent and repeatable outcomes and generates traceable reporting.

Another example of one of our successfully delivered projects is this robotic pool safety gate test rig which we delivered to our client. This test rig is used to type test the manufacturers pool gate hinges and gate latch to ensure that their products are compliant to the Australian standards
